Season 4 Episode 11
Mental Health Washing on Social Media with Alex Partridge
Do you ever go on social media and get bored? Seeing the same old same old from influencers, brands and celebrities? Do you endlessly scroll reels and TikToks, come out of the app and find yourself back in again within minutes?
That’s the dopamine effect.
But what if what you’re consuming on social media is actually making you feel worse about yourself and your problems – your mental health and wellbeing?
In today’s episode, I’m having a frank conversation about mental health washing on social media with Alex Partridge who is one of the pioneers of social media content the way we know it today. At age 21 in 2010, while a student at Oxford Brookes University, he founded UNILAD, one of the most popular social news and entertainment Internet companies in the world with an astonishing following of 50 million people around the globe. In 2012, Alex founded LADBible which would also grow to become a social media juggernaut.
Whilst the episode shares our opinions, there’s some food thought that I hope will enable you to decipher which accounts and behaviours are to your benefit when you’re scrolling on social media.
