Today I’m introducing you to a very special lady, Lucia Kanter St. Amour who is about to release her debut book Forces of Good: The Superpower of Everyday Negotiation.
We met one evening on Linkedin when she happened to like a post of mine. I didn’t know her, so I had a little profile snoop and just loved her vibe! In my authentic self mindset, I sent a connection request with the note, “Wow Lucia! Talk about a change-maker personified! I love what you’re doing in the world. Thank you for the ‘like’ on my post. Apologies if this is too forward but I would love to connect and invite you to be a guest on my podcast. I like to make things happen.”
She responded with the energy I had hoped for and gave me some very interesting insight saying “I’m actually one of only about a half a dozen women authors in the general marketplace on my topic: negotiation. It’s still a very male dominated sector and perceived as a male skill. Also, other negotiation books (I’ve read most of them) are written for an audience of C-suite executives and business people. No wonder everyday individuals think negotiation doesn’t apply to them or that they “can’t” do it. I’ve especially met too many WOMEN who don’t even know how to ask for something.”
She had me at “everyday people.”
Lucia Kanter St. Amour has been practising law since 1998. Ten years of her practice included regular clinical teaching positions in mediation and in negotiation and settlement at both University of California law schools at Berkeley and San Francisco. She has lectured at many prominent law and business schools in the United States and Europe and served for a number of years as an annual competition judge and mediator for the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris. Lucia has a deep background in mediation and earned her mediation certification from the Harvard Law School Program on Negotiation.
In 2022, she launched her podcast, Forces of Good: The Superpower of Everyday Negotiation, and was elected vice president of the board of directors for the flagship San Francisco chapter of United Nations Women. She is the mother of five boys (three canine and two human) and founder and executive director of Spectrum Strategies, a nonprofit organisation providing sibling support, and dog matching and training to families of children with autism. To top all of that, her debut book entitled Forces of Good: The Superpower of Everyday Negotiation has hit the no 1 bestseller list on Amazon – and it hasn’t even been officially released yet!
Lucia has an impressive CV with an extremely down to earth and inspirational personality. Get your notebooks ready, there are a lot of gems in this episode!
