How to choose the right healing therapy for stress & anxiety
On social media, every scroll offers us up a new way to look after ourselves. At any given hour, there is a live yoga class, sound therapy, breath-work, meditation, EFT and a whole host of other off-shoots from eastern philosophy. But how do you choose the right healing therapy?
Each time you are on social media, there is another type of class to do, another book to read, another self-care subscription box to buy. However, our mental health is still suffering and if anything, has been exacerbated as a result of the pandemic.
So, if we have so much access to so many of these great tools that will help our mental well being, which healing therapy do you choose to help manage stress and anxiety, why are we still struggling?
What is healing therapy and why should we choose the right one?
The foundation of holistic therapies is healing.
You can blindly heal or you can consciously heal. Blindly is to just enjoy these therapies as a form of relaxation.
Great for managing stress and anxiety, great for prioritising yourself, nourishes your whole self.
How do you choose the right healing therapy?
Actively choose to work on what causes you stress and anxiety – don’t just say you’re stressed, add into your life, stress management. If it’s work, this could be boundaries like time at desk etc
Reflective work – journaling: when you journal, you release but you also bring to the surface and the conscious thighs that might feel heavy, so a mediation class that allows you to set an intention may help with forgiving yourself or others
If you find that you are too much in your head, then deep relaxation classes like sound therapy will be most beneficial as the vibrations flow through you to relax your whole body. Always focus on the sounds when your mind starts to drift.
Which therapy to choose?
Be kind and do what you can manage. Do not fall victim to elitist healers and always trust your intuition (feel it literally in your body). Not just your head. Be open to the experiences for the most benefit and if nothing feels right, you can always walk in nature. It works just as well, you have to set the intention for why you’re doing it to have the most effect on you.
